Financial support by the Federal Government:
The federal government provides a tax incentive through December 2016 for small wind turbines of 100 kW or smaller in the amount of 30 percent of the installed cost or $4,000, which ever is less. For homes, there is an additional rule: the tax credit is the lesser of $4,000 or $1,000 per kW. See http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c-products.pr_tax_credits#s10
The federal government also provides production based tax credits, although the law that determines these credits has a limited duration. Please check the latest on the web site of the American Wind Energy Association http://www.awea.org/
